Electronics Vocabulary

  1. Electricity - The movement of electrons
  2. AC - Alternating Current (found in wall socket-electrons move back and forth really fast)
  3. DC - Direct Current (Found in batteries)
  4. Battery - turns chemical energy into electrical energy. (ever see "The Matrix"? What were the batteries there?
  5. Generator - turns mechanical energy into electrical energy
  6. Atom - Small particles that make up all matter
  7. Proton (p+) - Positively charged particle, found in the nucleus of the atom
  8. Neutron (n) - Neutral particle, they have no charge - found in the nucleus chillin' with the protons.
  9. Electron (e-) - Negatively charged particle that don't get along with the protons and neutrons, so they circle around the nucleus in their own space(shell).
  10. Nucleus - the inner part of an atom(made up of protons and neutrons)
  11. Shell - outer part of an atom, the orbit that electrons follow around the nucleus
  12. Resistance - opposition to electron flow(like you being opposed to your teacher giving you 50 homework questions to answer!)
