Tutorial Overview:

  1. Create 2 keyframes and tween an object in them
  2. Change the color properties of the object so that the alpha is set to 0 in one of the keyframes.

Alpha Fading in Flash 4 & MX

In this tutorial, you will learn how to alpha fade a motion tween between two keyframes in an animation using Macromedia Flash. You need to know how to make motion tween before you complete this tutorial.

Step 1
Create a symbol. Insert a 2nd keyframe at frame 15 and create motion tween between the two keyframes.

Step 2
Now you will change the properties for the object you are tweening (on only one of the keyframes).
Below are instructions for both Flash MX and Flash 4:

Using Flash 4: Using Flash MX:

Right-click on your object in your first keyframe with the pointer tool and select "Properties".

Then click on the "Color Effect" tab. Select "Alpha" from the Color Effect drop down menu and adjust the Alpha level from 100% to 0%. Then hit "OK".

Select the object in your first keyframe with the pointer tool . In the Properties box at the bottom, select "Alpha" in the Color drop down box. Then adjust the percentage from 100% to 0%.

That's it! Your object should now fade from 0% visible to 100% visible.
