Additional Information: 2000 Season
After two of the highest-profile seasons ever, Mark McGwire's year was crippled by a knee injury that basically sidelined him for half of 2000. His last start came on July 6. At the time, he was on his way to another monster year with 30 homers and 69 RBI. But he had only 15 at-bats the rest of the way. Despite missing three months, McGwire still was able to move past Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Mantle and Mike Schmidt into seventh place on the all-time career home-run list.

Hitting
McGwire's awesome power shows no sign of any decline. He remains a very patient hitter who frequently walks and rarely goes out of the strike zone to fish for pitches. His ability to lift virtually every pitch makes him a threat to go deep whenever he is able to make contact. He is very selective at the plate, which means he can hit over .300 in addition to all the power. A legendary pull hitter, McGwire can take his share of pitches to center and right-center without losing any of his power.

Baserunning & Defense
One of baseball's slowest runners, McGwire rarely hits anything other than singles and home runs. He's managed only 50 doubles in the last three seasons and just six triples in his entire career. McGwire usually uses good judgment on the bases. He has good hands at first, but his range has slipped and he has always had problems with his throwing accuracy.
