HotSpots!
USING IMAGEMAPS

Want to make navigation on your website a little more fun? Try an image map!

Image maps use a coordinate system to tell the webbrowser where to make an image clickable. Check out the diagram below:

As you can see the picture of the frog above has an imagemap of a circle and a rectangle on it. What do you think the numbers are for in the "AREA COORDS=" command?

How to Make an Imagemap in Dreamweaver:

Step 1
Insert an image

When you click on an image in DreamWeaver, you will see information for making an image map(Hotspots) in the Properties dialog box as shown to the right:

Step 2
You can draw map areas on the picture by using one of the tools on the bottom left of the Properties box(pointer, rectangle, circle, or polygon shapes). I used the polygon tool to trace around the regions of NC.

Step 3
Once you make a clickable region, put in where the region should link to next to "Link" and assign it an Alternate name(Alt) which will pop up when the user puts their cursor over it.

TIP: Make sure that you make a note to the user that they can click on the image.
